S’pore Pupils Top Tests, Score Higher In Reasoning. By: Soon Qi Wei

Singapore’s primary and secondary school students remain world beaters in mathematics, science and reading. The test scores showed that not only did Singapore increase its share of top performers, but the weaker students also moved up, improving their scores. The results validate the approach adopted by the Ministry of Education to allow more time for teachers to develop critical thinking skills in their students. A total of 12,500 Singapore students sat the tests held last year, and across the academic streams they achieved higher scores than those who took the tests in 2006 and 2007.
I feel that this is a very great achievement for our nation as this proves that even if we are a small country, our intellectual ability far surpasses other countries. I believe that this is very important as it is also for our economic survival. In order to maintain a strong economy, bright and brilliant minds are required, this shows that we do not need the help of the usual foreign talents and instead we are able to survive on our own.
