Hostage siege at Algeria gas plant not over! By Lim Kay Kiat

A recent terrorist kidnap at the Amenas gas field cost the lives of 4 hostages and casualty figures are said to rise. Authorities claimed that the hostages where released and the kidnap had ended on Thursday, however this is not true as special forces are still surrounding the perimeter of the plant. Many governments still report their citizens missing. A hostage who has just been rescued claims to have been hiding under his bed for more than 40 hours before he was rescued. An unknown source claims that the raid was carried out in retaliation for the French intervention against Islamist groups.

In my opinion, terrorists now a days are getting bolder and better. This matter needs to be properly handled so that we can reduce the number of casualties and deaths to it minimum. Furthermore, I think the Algeria government should not hesitate to seek help from the United Nations or its neighboring countries if they require assistance, as now lives are at stake and they should not just care about the sovereignty of their country but instead the safety of the hostages. Lastly, i believe that if this crisis is not handled properly, the terrorist will be more ambitious and bolder as they will see the Algeria government as weak and incapable of dealing with them.
